Reading Ulysses with my Mom

SEVEN: K RESPONDS TO MOM'S BIO
& MOM GOES FOR A WALK

SEPTEMBER 11

Hi Mom,

I love the photo! I'm glad the book finally arrived.

I saw the email with your bio. I love it! It brought back a lot of memories for me in an unexpected way. We're both Anne fans, of course. I think the first time I read Anne of Green Gables may have actually been on that family minivan trip to the east coast when we visited Prince Edward Island and went to the real Green Gables House. I got a boxed set of the series and devoured them on the long, long car ride. Remember getting lobster right off the boat and cooking it in that cabin on the shore?

Your bio does leave me with some questions; it's surprising to me that I don't have a good grasp of certain details of your life. There are some things you really never talked about much. I hope to tease a few more specifics out of you in due time!

But first: I am dying to know how things are going with Ulysses. Have you started reading yet? What do you think? What are your first impressions? I have A LOT of thoughts about it but I want some unvarnished, uninfluenced thoughts from you first. Have you fallen asleep while reading it yet? I can just picture you out on the patio curled up on the love seat in the shade with the garden in bloom around you, nodding off after having been up since the crack of dawn doing chores.

Let me know how it's going!!!

K.

ps. Knowing Dad has read it too is a surprise; I'll email him about that for sure. Can't the dude with a PhD in physics who canoed across the arctic, worked on a Nobel Prize-winning scientific experiment, and built a library in his retirement leave the story books to us girls? ;)

Great email! Thanks. Look forward to sharing! Loved your paragraph about dad! I didn't want to start reading without you! Read the preface, the forward and the note as well as some general Google comments on Ulysses

Went for a long walk yesterday taking a route that I thought would bring me to a favorite creek walk. Turns out the street I was on didn't have access to the park... turned into a 5km+ walk - lots of steep up and downhills! Weird to be "lost" when I knew exactly where I was! Expected to be really sore today but knee is fine! Heading out for a walk now!
Hope to get some reading outside on the deck but it has cooled off so wrap me in a blanket when you picture me ensconsed on the lounge!

Will start chapter 1 when I get back. Are you reading it now? Want to read with you so comments are relevant!
So happy we are connecting this way!
